Website Builder Price Comparison

website builder price comparison.

When you take the time to figure out a website builder price comparison, you need to consider a few facts to have a more accurate assessment of value to the cost paid out.

To get started, there are many website builders we could make a comparison on for finding the best package for the money. What I’m going to do is just choose two for this comparison to get you on the right track. You could do this with any of the available providers out there that offering website builders as part of their services.

Most providers will supply you with a domain name, website builder to create your site and hosting to have your site visible on the Internet.

So I have chosen my #1 recommendation and one of the top 5 providers used by many companies SquareSpace to make this comparison.

If you are interested in knowing more about each of these providers, you can check out the links from my menu under website builders or click here for more on Wealthy Affiliate and SquareSpace.

So what are the prices and what do you get:

SquareSpace Packages
Wealthy Affiliate Packages

SquareSpace Packages

SquareSpace consists of 3 different packages you can choose from to set up a web presence to suit your needs.

www squarespace com siteFor the first one, you would be looking at having a cover page for $5/month for a yearly plan or pay out $7/month to month as you go. This plan, for example, could be a very simple one-page site or a landing page and nothing more.

On the second plan, you can have a personal site for $12/month for a yearly plan, or you can pay $16/month to month. This plan may be okay if you are not planning on doing a business.

The third plan is the one we’ll make our comparison with to see how it compares with Wealthy Affiliate. For the business plan, you’ll pay $18/month for a yearly plan and $26/month to month. So that you know, SquareSpace charges a percentage for transaction fees above any applicable financing costs from other institutions.

Also, SquarSpace does offer two other payment options for e-commerce packages that will cost $26 and $40 per month. You will gain more advanced tools for e-commerce, and all the transaction fees will be removed.

As a note, many other providers will offer such variations for a domain name, website builder to create your site and hosting in different payment level packages.

Wealthy Affiliate Packages

Wealthy Affiliate has but two packages. A free membership and a premium package you’ll pay to have.

WA-sign-upFor the sake of this post we’ll skip the free package as we are looking at a comparison between SquareSpace and Wealthy Affiliates paid packages.

Wealthy Affiliate has only one paid program they call premium which gives you full access. Where many other providers set up all different pay level plans Wealthy Affiliate offers just one.

The premium plan will cost you $29/month on a yearly term, or you can do $47/month to month.

Wealthy Affiliate membership packages

With Wealthy Affiliate there are no extra percentages for charging transaction fees like SquareSpace or other such providers.

Looking at the Comparison

At first glance, many people would believe SquareSpace, and other providers like them would be cheaper than Wealthy Affiliate.

SquareSpace $18/month for business
Wealthy Affiliate $29/month for business

If we ignore the SquareSpace transaction fees, you would think Wealthy Affiliate is $11/month more, correct.

Well, the truth is, if you have transactions happening with SquareSpace, you will be paying out more money. Let me introduce something most people do not always think about until later which makes Wealthy Affiliate far cheaper in the long run.

How Many Websites

Most online marketers have more than one website to earn income streams from, while doing an online business. Just how many depends on the person and how they set their sites up.

To give you an example of this, I have 12-sites. Some are entirely different from one another while others are related.

Here is what I have done:

Primary site – Say it with photographs

Say It With Photographs website

So just with one primary site Say It With Photographs there are five other sites that fine tune the niche. Each one deals with a more specific niche from the main topic.

Say It With Photographs
Supporting site - Online Photography
Supporting site - Software Courses
Supporting site - Printers
Supporting site - Sublimation
Supporting site - Products

Primary site – TD Remodeling

TD Remodeling website

Then there is TD Remodeling another primary site with a general niche. It has three other websites that make up more specific niche topics.

TD Remodeling
Home Renovation How To
Home Improvement Hand Tools
Learning Home Renovations

Primary site – First Quality Concrete

First Quality Concrete Website

Then there is another website called First Quality Concrete dealing with decorative concrete solutions from driveways, pools, patios to interior floors and countertops.

Primary site – What is A Website Builder

The twelfth and final site is this one you are presently on What Is A Website Builder.

My Price Comparison

As a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate, I pay $29/month for a yearly plan for one package, no upsells, simple and straight forward to use.

If I were with SquareSpace, my $18/month for an annual membership would not apply. In fact, it would cost me $18 x 12 sites = $216/monthly on the yearly plans.

If you need any more than a single business site, you’ll be paying out more money to SquareSpace or nearly any other provider as far as that goes than Wealthy Affiliate.

With Wealthy Affiliate you can have 25 free websites that operate on their sub-domain and 25 domain names of your own to use with just one premium package. I don’t think there would be too many people requiring more than 50 websites, and they certainly will not be able to handle them on their own.

The funny thing is all we looked at was using a website builder to create the sites and host them which is what SquareSpace and most other providers do, but Wealthy Affiliate gives you far more for your money.

what is a website builder offer

As soon as you purchase two or more packages for sites to be built on SquareSpace, you just blew by what Wealthy Affiliate charges to have a membership. So when you consider the website builder price comparison between SquareSpace and Wealthy Affiliate, even without taking into account all the extras that Wealthy Affiliate offers that SquareSpace cannot even compete with, SquareSpace is far too expensive for me. I pay $29/monthly instead of $216/monthy and receive so much more.

Much thanks for your detail and concise comparison of both website builder. Someone might think they only need one website, but trust me, one is never enough lol. I’m currently doing 3 different websites right now and I never plan for that. The second and third site are something I created out of a sudden burst of idea. So yeah, to anyone reading this, one site will never be enough. Trust me on this =)

Btw, 12 is quite a huge number of sites you got there. How do you keep up managing those sites?

The first site I built at Wealthy Affiliate was Say It With Photographs and has the Five supporting sites that go with it. Those six websites are all part of my testing to see how well Wealthy Affiliate worked with all its training and things you learn from them and the community.

After Wealthy Affiliate had pasted the test, I switched my business website over to WA and created three more sites to support it which is what I do for a living.

The eleventh one is this site which I just started to help others have the opportunity that I have discovered with Wealthy Affiliate.

The twelfth site is for my brothers business.

It does take time, but each of these websites is for different results which determine the amount of time required for me to put into them.

Wow! That’s a lot of sites! So how frequently do you update those sites? I’m guessing around once per week?

I try to keep up with everything on a weekly basis whenever possible.

Nice comparison. I never heard of Square Space before, it is only now through your review that I learned about them. With your explanation, it is clear that Wealthy Affiliate is a better option. But I wonder, that inspite of this truth, why are there people still buying Square Space? What do you think is the reason why?

I said it because, if Square Space is losing business to Wealthy Affiliate, then they soon be out of business, right?

Squarespace will stay in business as like a lot of companies they rely on substantial amounts of marketing with big budgets to get their name out there.

Also, most people that tend to start off with building a business online require or usually only create one website which makes them cheaper as a provider of hosting.

Most of the people I know using Squarespace have just one site for an offline business and only market through their local area and are not interested in around the world because of the service they offer. They only deal in their geographical area, and that’s it.

Wealthy Affiliate is for those looking to cover more global area if they want and have more than one site and especially if they need any training and updates without having to spend extra money and time going elsewhere on the Internet to get the training.

If you only want one simple website and you know everything you need to do, then Squarespace is cheaper, but Wealthy Affiliate has it all for capabilities, training and the amount of sites over Squarespace and is cheaper in this regard.

I really like the idea of comparing web design sites, As a novice at doing this, the site helps me get a better understanding other design sites compared to WA that I am utilizing. You certainly make a good point why WA standout. Why would I want to know other web design sites when I am happy here at WA, just wondering?

Well, Marc, for most people, they find knowing what all the other providers offer for functions and features with the cost they want to them, makes it easier to decide who gives you the most for your money to handle what you want and need.

Each provider and there are many have cons and pros that we must all decide who would be the best for us to deal with for hosting our sites. Like you I’m happy about all the extras I receive from Wealthy Affiliate for the cheaper cost compared to be using other companies packages and software programs.
