Having the use of a proper keyword search tool, you’ll be able to achieve the following results.

  • It will help with understanding customer needs and wants
  • You’ll learn where income streams are possible for products or services
  • Isolate untapped and profitable niche markets
  • Avoid heavy competition for better marketing

Performing Effective Keyword Research

For anyone to perform an efficient keyword research whether you are new to having an online presence or a seasoned online entrepreneur you need the right tools.

The Keyword Tool I’ll use to display this concept is the one I use myself, Jaaxy.

So let’s get started and walk you through the process.

First, we need to select a Niche

For anyone wanting to do an online business, You need to consider what are you an expert in, hobbies that you are passionate about or areas of high interest. The more you know or are willing to learn will make the journey much easier. Knowing what services or products you want to use in helping others is one of the first steps to figuring out your niche.

So to get things started, let’s take an actual example which you can apply to any circumstances rather than a hypothetical one. For a living, I work as a contractor doing renovations. I decided to do an online business from what I know, and you could end up doing the same thing as what I’m doing or you could take your hobby or other interest.

To start off, you need to think of what will the niche be; I decided on tools.

keyword research tools

Now you will be able to see a few different results retrieved back from the search for the keyword “tools.” The average amount of people searching this keyword is 560,133 with a traffic of 95,223. This information collected means, when your site ranks on page one for this keyword, you could expect the amount of traffic showing out of the average people searching to view your website.

The problem is the high amount of competition shown in the QSR, KQI for SEO tells you not to waste your time trying to compete. This search term is in the red with zero out of a hundred (0/100).

Time for a new strategy

In most cases you will find the first entries you make will most likely come back impossible to rank with against the existing competition.

We do have a solution for that!

Whenever you choose a broad search for keywords, you’ll end up unable to compete with all the other companies and individuals searching for the same thing. Also, consider with such a broad search as the word tools, are the people looking for what type of tools you want to deal with on the site. After all, we are not seeking to sell or give information about gardening tools or software tools, etc.

What we need to do is be a little more specific in nature to what we want, just as the visitors themselves will be when they are surfing to find what they want or need.

To do this, we will fine tune the keyword to be more specific to what we want so we’ll look at entering Power Tools.

keyword research power tools

From the result brought back for this search term, we can see we have an average of 32,271 with a traffic of 5,487 which is still excellent. We still have a problem with the QSR, KQI and SEO values. The competition is still far too much to waste your time with even though you have a 41/100. Think of it as your SEO data from the other information collected off the web, is your school grade.

Notice directly below your search term that another one diy power tools are 85/100. This search term is just one of many that also gets extracted from when you do a keyword search. You can see this one has an average of 139 with a traffic of 24 which is low compared to the entries for power tools. The difference is you would be able to compete for the traffic from diy power tools and get some of the traffic.

The problem is there is not much traffic to get. The point I would like to make is the SEO starts to rank much better as we get more specific as we dig to find a niche.

After spending some time looking into getting high-quality monthly average searches for available traffic with SEO ranking, this is what I came up with during my search.

keyword research power tools results

From the portion of a longer list, the results above you can see all of them have good SEO rating from 83 to 98. There is only two that I find looking to offer great potential for a niche to build upon for a site.

The first one is Home Improvement Power Tools with an average of 31,956 and traffic of 5,433 coming in with a rating of 88/100. The problem is, when I check for domain availability, the .com extension which is the fastest and easiest to rank on the Internet is already purchased.

The second one is Home Improvement Hand Tools having an average 11,698 and traffic of 1,989 showing an SEO factor of 89/100. This time, the .com extension was available so what you are now seeing is a screenshot after I purchased the domain name.

You will also notice to the right of the domains heading there are Related and Brainstorm, which you can also use to help you with finding good quality keywords and phrases.

Just to also give you some more food for thought, the first keyword phrase that was already purchased, I could still use to write a post on to generate more traffic to my website.

What you have accomplished so far:

  • Will be able to find your niche to get a good searchable domain name.
  • Take all related keywords to create pages/posts for better traffic

Obviously the higher the traffic with the top SEO rating, the better, but even the lesser keywords and keyword phrases that are similar and relate to your niche will help you rank faster and better with the more quality content you have.

Knowing what I have pointed out, it goes to reason the better the name you pick for your domain name when it ranks page one, think of all that instant traffic already available to you.

In the future posts to come, we’ll look further into what was covered and also dig deeper to other marketing strategies available to you.

By all means try the trial period for yourself!

Hi There,

Great article on what is a keyword research, so many people new to the world of online marketing sometimes don’t quite get the importance of this subject. In the beginning, I made the same mistakes as most people will by not knowing about the importance of having a proper keyword search tool and knowing how to use it.

I created this website to help others not to make the same mistakes and show them an opportunity that can save them a lot of money and wasted time.

I know people that are paying to have visitors see their posts from $10 to $20 dollars for 5000 visitors to boost their ranking and have traffic. By using the methods described in this article, I have a monthly average over 262,999 and traffic of 44,710 for my domain name.

You know I’m happy with the small cost of having Jaaxy for boosting my SEO.

If there is something I wished I knew very well at the onset of my venture into internet marketing is keyword research.

I have made serious mistakes with this issue, initially I started without doing any research at all, I began by doing things that comes to my head.

When I started to understand keyword research I also go for very competitive keywords looking only at average monthly search without recourse to competition.

After a while I started to get to understand the whole concept. I believe you have done justice to this topic in your article, many newbies will find it very helpful.

Having the opportunity to know about and understand keyword research will save people a lot of time and help them produce a money making website sooner.

Even for all the people not wanting to make money online but just wanting a website to help others out, by utilizing keywords and phrases for good quality SEO will get them in front of more people that they will be able to help.

Thank you, you always hear people talking about keywords but I never actually realised what they are – I can totally see how knowing what people are searching for online, how many times a month can really help anyone in affiliate marketing.

I’ve just tried Jaaxy and I really like it – I’m definitely going to use it going forward for my blog. Thank you so much for your helpful advice.

Glad to be of some help, for the last year I have been learning all about creating an online presence and how to make it successful. Now that I know the difference I started this website to help as many as I can find their opportunity for online success if they want it.

Most people tend to want to get ahead but there are to many road blocks or people looking to keep them from achieving there goals. At least with this site I can try to help those that I can.

I use Jaaxy for all my keyword research as well and there is no better tool out there. The thing with Google’s keyword tool is that it only tells you about competition for paid advertising ads. It’s not going to really help you for organic searches like Jaaxy will. I generally only go for keywords with a QSR of over 90. Thanks for the article!

    May 26, 2016 at 10:20 am

I have noticed the same thing with Google as well. Jaxxy as a keyword research tool does work a lot better for what you need for creating new content for your site and having a QSR over 90 will definitley make it easier for your website to rank better for SEO.

This is truly a fine article about SEO.
As a beginner in blogging, I am always searching for ways to uprank my blogs.

Did you find a way to measure the results of your SEO?

At this moment, I think my blog is ready for improvement. Thanks to this article I will start using Jaaxy.

    June 9, 2016 at 9:54 pm

You can use the search keyword for your pages/posts in Jaaxy for your domain name and see how your ranking is progressing. I also use google’s free tools from the account I set up with them Google Analytics and Webmaster tools through the search console as well.

There is another software that you could purchase, but so far I have not bothered to use them. The Google software that you can use for free and the other free page ranking software on the web show you how your website, pages/posts are doing.

This is such a coincidence, i just posted o blog about keyword and this is the first page to view, i am struggling with this subject and after reading Jay Neil’s creed, i am more curious about the subject, i have pasted your URLand will study your page in depth, are you aware of the creed and are we talking at cross purposes?Your info is well researched, a little hard to follow at times but i hope it is just me. Thanks for sharing.

    July 2, 2016 at 10:58 am

I’m not familiar with your reference to Jay Neil’s creed as I have never read his writings. I do understand that keyword research is a very in depth subject that no matter how much we try to simplify it’s meaning and how to use it for web development, it will never be crystal clear to everyone after one reading in a short article.

Keyword research is one of those topics that will take a few different articles explained in various manors for any of us when we are first learning to comprehend its full potential correctly. Depending on our background determines what we learn the easiest and what requires more and even though most of us are basically the same, yet we are different so will are learning and comprehension.

So what I wrote in my article is easy for some, not so easy for others and actually boring to some as this is all old hat to them. I am trying to make it at least easy to as many people as possible as most people visiting this site are just starting out.

July 18, 2016 at 1:49 pm

Really good overview of keyword research. I am just starting out in internet marketing and the information you have presented here has been very beneficial to me. I like how you take the reader through a specific example and show the results. I will have to look into Jaaxy at some point in the near future.

    July 18, 2016 at 9:16 pm

Nowadays to compete with keywords, you need to know how many people are searching the keywords and phrases and the level of competition that goes with them. To just blindly pick keywords and hoping for the best will never work. Trying that method will be a hit and miss to what works.

Having a good keyword search tool can make all the difference in the world for how fast and easy the amount of traffic you can create for your site. As I mentioned, Jaaxy is an excellent keyword search tool that I use and has all the capabilities I require.

July 18, 2016 at 1:55 pm

Very excellent article on how to get started with making your own website. I agree on all of what you said especially the choice of keywords you use to write content on. Choose good keywords can really roll in the traffic to your website. I will share this article on my social media pages to help inform others on this topic.

    July 18, 2016 at 9:21 pm

Appreciate any shares that people do as this will also help others find what they are looking for and most importantly help with making the right decisions on using keywords correctly. It’s surprising how many people are unaware of the importance of keywords, so the more people that learn about their importance for all the ones looking at having websites the better.

Thank you for this informative post!
Many people who want to start an online business need this information since it’s a very important part of rankings. Also, I’ve used jaaxy and it is a great tool indeed!
What do you think is something a person should keep in mind while researching for keywords
Will be back for more!

    July 19, 2016 at 12:28 pm

Two of the biggest things I think about is first the traffic involved and secondly the correlation of how much competition. These two need to be factored in together.

If you have lots of traffic and the competition is also very high, then odds are you’ll never rank the first page to receive any traffic. The other scenario is when the competition is extremely low, and the traffic doesn’t exist then you’re ranking front page to an empty audience that does not exist.

The same even goes for people who choose to pay for exposure. The more traffic with competition the more you’ll need to pay and paying for low competition with no traffic means you’ll pay nothing for no visitors are coming to your site.

You always need traffic and the lower the competition, the better so you can rank or pay the minimum amount for exposure.

This is my first thoughts when dealing with keywords and using a keyword tool.

August 27, 2016 at 12:39 pm

reading this post I was refreshing what I already knew about Keyword Research. What I found interesting is that you relly managed to find a Keyword with lots of traffic where you built your Domain off of. I have researched a lot of Keywords (about 40, for one niche) and the best Keyword I came up with has searche 4000 and trafiic 700, the other Keywords I found are not so good. Can you tell how high the traffic and search factor has to be so that it really pays out?
Thank you

    August 28, 2016 at 10:05 am

What I have noticed since I’ve been buying domain names and developing them is uncommon names or search terms have mostly no traffic. Take for instance my company name TD Remodeling. There is no traffic for this name as it has no meaning for the masses that search the internet. My site rank shot to page one incredibly fast due to no competition. Because there is no traffic for the actual name, all my traffic is coming from my other post/pages. Once you have a name that gets branded, then the traffic will increase.

When you choose a domain name that has lots of traffic with low competition, then you’ll take longer to get your name page one depending on your niche. You still have your pages/posts that can go page one, but if your name is hard to get to page one, then your page/posts may also be more difficult as well. Once you do achieve it, you’ll have a lot more instant traffic as your name has lots of traffic before you ever get into branding.

Different niches will have various domain names with their pages/posts that make one harder to achieve than others do to the competition of how many other people are doing the same.

November 15, 2016 at 2:16 am

I personally use Jaaxy for my keyword research, but for some reason, I find using keywords to be harder than I thought it would be. That’s probably because when I write, I’m so focused just on the content itself that I don’t really think about what keywords I’m using and maybe that means I lack focus.

    November 15, 2016 at 10:20 pm

I would not classify that as the losing focus. The fact is you do want to concentrate on your writing and content and not all about the keywords. Use the keyword in your permalink, heading for your article, in the first and last paragraph and once in the body of your content and nothing more. If you use any single keyword too many times in the same article, the search engines will no longer give you great ratings for the keyword as it will be considered keyword stuffing which no longer works.

Compared to keyword stuffing your better off doing what you’ve been doing as the search engines will use keywords from your content that you may not even be aware of from your articles and rank you for it.

Hi Travis
Very insightful post. Thanks for letting us know how to use keywords for finding a niche and good topics for a post. I’ve been spending lots of time on a keyword tool just browsing for good possible topics myself. Something I’ve never quite understood is the keywords in my post.

My post has to have the keywords I selected on its title only, or should I write my keyword in my content also?

Thanks in advance,

    February 28, 2017 at 11:31 am

Hi Luis and in answering your question you do want to include your keyword in more than just your title. In the past, people would lace their articles with keywords and repeat them regularly for better SEO ranking. This is known as using black hat tricks which do not work anymore.

Today you simply have your keyword or phrase in your title and add it to your content two or three more times, and that is it for proper SEO usage.

Once at the beginning of the first paragraph and last paragraph. If your writing an article that is 500 words and over consider once again in the body of the article somewhere. Just avoid doing too many entries, or you’ll defeat the purpose as the search engines will think your stuffing.
