What Is A Scam And How To Recognize them?

Step #3 of Ten

what about starting an online business intro

What is a scam and how to recognize them is one of the biggest things people need to know when dealing with the Internet. Far to many people are being taken advantage of and losing hard earned money for the promise of making it rich only to make no money.

As great as the Internet is giving anyone from any background a better chance of having a business to make the kind of money most people only dream of, there are others that use this opportunity to cheat you out of your money.

It is not always easy to know which companies are legit and which are false opportunities. There are steps anybody can take to stay clear of fake opportunities. When you’re looking to find a way to operate and have a legitimate company to make an income from the Internet, then there are a few things you need to do to have the right mindset not to be had only to lose your money.

Obvious Facts!

When was the last time a wealthy person gave their money away to you. If they did you would not be here, and I would not have written this article your reading. Like the majority of the world, I’m what is a scam and how to know obviousstill working to make money. I do this both on and offline at the moment and will be changing my entire workload to online. Most people work offline but are increasingly trying to work online.

There are plenty of opportunities to make money online; the problem is how we choose to go about it.

We know rich people do not give their money away, and usually, they want more. Then there are many people out there that want money and will take it at any cost. These same individuals know and understand how many other people all want to have money as well. What they do is use this knowledge against you by making you believe how simple it is to make money online by taking your lack of knowledge of what is needed to earn money on the internet.

If making money on the Internet was so simple, then you would know of dozens if not hundreds of people all getting rich the easy way. In fact, you would know more people around you making money from the Internet than you do working regular jobs. The reason this is not happening is because the Internet is not that simple.

Considering most people you know make money by offline means or as an employee for some company. All the fancy websites telling everybody about their magic secrets, unique systems that only they have at their disposal are all 100% pure “BS.”

What The Web Doesn’t Do!

Offer you as a nobody to their company to become rich the way they say by:

Sign up for a limited spot from a countdown.

  • The reality is the countdown is false, they just say there is one just to urge you to pay them. There simply after your money and will nickel and dime you to death until you’re broke, or you catch on and stop giving your money away to them.

Tell you how much money you’ll make doing nothing other than using their system.

  • what is a scam and how to knowTheir system is garbage that does not work for you but has them laughing all the way to the bank. When people realize and stop falling for the easy money marketing the company folds up, and they create the so-called next greatest and latest system and start the easy money marketing “BS” all over again.

Tell you it’s free, 100% guaranteed you’ll become rich trading with their system.

  • The funny thing is half of these free opportunities are all about gambling your money on risky stocks. How can it be free when you have to upfront money to try and earn more money. What happens is these guys make money from the system when you give them your money to invest, they get paid, and you end up losing your so-called guaranteed investment. There are no guarantees with the stock market so you better only bet what you can afford to lose if you plan to take that route.

Sell you traffic to give you better ranking and conversions.

  • There are sites out there claiming to give you the better ranking and boost your sales by sending you quality traffic targetted to your niche products. What you receive are useless bots that Google knows better not to track for giving you a better ranking against the legitimate traffic your competitors are getting. Secondly, bots do not make purchases.
  • Even though Google will make sure it does not unfairly rank an organic traffic based website below a bot traffic site, Google Analytics will track to show you all the wasted bot traffic that comes in and drops off as fast as it enters.
When regular traffic arrives, a good percentage will travel through all the linking pages as the visitor clicks through your site. If 5,000 bot’s show up on a page, then 5,000 drop offs are on the same page. Total waste of money for those who purchase it.

There are a lot more scenarios for scams!

What The Web Does Offer!

Companies will offer services and products for you to make money when:

Purchase domain names and hosting.

  • There are quality companies that offer you the chance to buy available domain names and purchase hosting space to set up an online presence. These companies make their money by providing you with a quality service and no false promises of becoming rich essentially overnight.

Internet Training

  • There is a lot to learn about how to make money on the Internet so there are some great sites that will teach you how.

Marketing websites

  • You can find websites that will teach you all about marketing, and you can also pay for marketing services. An example of one such system is Googles Adwords where one can pay for clicks by choosing for what pages/posts you want to market by the keywords you choose. Each keyword or keyword phrase has a cost value which you will pay for every time somebody clicks your ad. The more your ad gets clicked, the more you owe until you reach your set dollar value in your advertising budget.

There are good quality services available!

Differentiate Between Legitimate And Scammers?

what is a scam and how to recognizeScammers

The thing you need to remember about what is legitimate or not is that everything the Internet has to offer that is good you will find scammers offering the same thing without any proper value. Scammers are only in it for the money and do not last before having to find a new way to rip you off. The legitimate companies make no false promises and stick around with good ratings.

Scammers will tell you they have the magic system; they are the expert guru’s that know it all, and you will be rich doing their simple system that anybody can follow, so just sit back and watch the money roll in. They will always sell you on luxury items, fast money, little to no work involved and you will be rich because their system does it all.

The only thing their system does is bleed you dry of your money and nothing else.

what is a scam and how to avoidThey will offer services and products that may be part of everything you will need to succeed. Most have partial, but some companies do have a full solid package. They make no false promises that you’ll become rich. They will tell you the truth that you can earn money you can even become rich, but there is no magic system. There is nothing where you can sit back and watch it roll in.

They will keep you updated with what works for most companies by teaching, explaining and leaving the decisions to you to do what you will. The methods they will teach or show you may be free or could cost you for the training. There are services like Google Adwords used for marketing that can cost you some money if you choose to use them.

The bottom line here is they know you have to work your business just like you have to work at any job if you expect to get paid. No work on your part and you’ll make zero dollars to show your results. Nobody is handing you a fist full of dollars!

What’s Next?

For most of you according to my Google Analytics, which is a free tracking tool you can use in your online business. This flow chart can show me how many people show up for example to this page you’re on.

  • I will know how many will start the free membership to move on to having a successful online business.
  • Google Analytics also shows me how many want more information by clicking through to step four.
  • The final information I get to see is how many drop off and leave this website.
  1. The ones who leave the site are not interested in going further, which is fair enough.
  2. Realizing there are no easy, fast riches for doing nothing and may quit.
  3. Don’t believe me about the scammers out there, and somebody will make them rich faster elsewhere.

what is a scam and how to balance

All that I can say is if you’re not prepared to do some work to make the amount of money you want, then your best to stay away from trying to earn an income from an online business. Online businesses all take time and money, and everybody needs to figure out how much of time or money they want to invest. Now that you have some information on What Is A Scam And How To Recognize Them, it’s time for Step #4

Hello and just wanted to say great post on how to know if something online is a scam There are definitely lots of scams out there that promise a bunch of things and just end up taking your money and time so always got to be careful. Great job keep up the good work, and again great post.

    April 24, 2016 at 12:50 pm

From having so many other people contacting me on my other websites and wanting to have sites online like myself, I decided to create this one so anyone at the beginning stages could learn what to expect and see about ovioding the scams out there.

Far to many people are being taken advantage of and need to start seeing the truth behind the kind of work the Internet is really all about.

April 29, 2016 at 12:31 pm

Your article is very insightful.

I like your assertion that for almost every legit business out there, you’ll most likely find a replica from the scammers. People need to realize that when it comes to online business, the same principles that govern an ordinary brick and mortar business apply here too, I mean, you don’t set up shop today and expect riches overnight. The online world calls for the same effort and diligence that one would put into such other brick & mortar business.

    April 29, 2016 at 7:33 pm

Exactly Eliud, businesses take time and money, some more than others. Both will require time invested and especially at the beginning. The type of time required is different between jobs for what may be needed but time never the less.

As far as money goes, online businesses are much cheaper and easier to start compared to offline companies. If in your online ventures you do serious marketing to make money faster then you will be required to spend substantially more money up front for your online business.

April 29, 2016 at 12:59 pm

Thank you for this informative and interesting article. I hope that many people will read it before falling into the trap of scammers. With some experience, it becomes very easy though to make the difference between legit opportunities and scams. The most important thing that you pointed out in this article is that the money doesn’t fall from the sky and that any level of success is possible in online business but that it depends entirely on you and your efforts.
All the best,

    April 29, 2016 at 7:41 pm

That pretty well sums it up Maja. Money can be made but anyone getting involved needs to know they need to work their business and put the effort into what they are doing online. The big thing is to put the work into where it pays off by making sure you follow a proper plan of action. You can put in a large amount of work but if the work is not structured properly for what it takes to make a successful business online, then you have defeeted the whole purpose of what you are trying to accomplish.

Your article is great! There are a lot of scams around the internet these days. People should be aware of what is a scam and what is a legitimate business. There are a lot of scam websites which provides very attractive bonuses to lure victims to purchase their magic system. Keep up the good work!

    May 22, 2016 at 10:29 am

It seems there will always be those who take advantage of others when it comes to money and scammers online are no different. So many people are looking for large amounts of cash without doing anything for it and need to stop and think how many jobs pay you to do basically nothing, none that I know of.

All jobs require work and some form of knowledge. The Internet is no different and requires the same things as an offline business in the respect that it takes time, knowledge and money. How much of each will determine how long to get things moving, but only if you do things right.

For those who want to learn how to do things right, then start off free and learn for yourself that this is one such place to make an online presence happen.

June 3, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Absolutely! Scams are everywhere. I remember about 15 years ago when I saw something online about selling a particular service to people from home. I call them and they told me I would have to buy their software worth $2,200 and I would only get a dollar for every 5 dollars sold. When I said that was ridiculous, he called me a child because I wouldn’t take a chance. Would you take a chance?

    June 3, 2016 at 10:11 pm

moneyYou made the right call on not wasting your time and money on that deal. They were only looking at lining their pockets with your money. A lot of theses companies that require large sums of money are usually no good. Proper opportunities that have products will just let you see about selling them and they’ll pay you a commission. When they tell you to pay large amounts of money up front then it’s time to do some serious research on them or just simply walk away.

There are cases where you need to pay some money but you’re usually purchasing products or services that may also include training or education of some form for the money, otherwise it’s a no go. It always pays to check into things before spending any money for products or survices.

June 3, 2016 at 12:59 pm

Hey Travis
I had no idea that’s how ‘traffic scams’ works. With them selling you bots to crawl your site and deceive you and Google that you site is getting traffic in a bid for it to get ranked higher.

Sadly as you said its short lived and not only do you loose your money but I am sure that Google will pick up the foulplay and penalise you as well.

These are the working of these scammers to prey on those that know less, yet want to build a honest business.

I agree with you that online or even offline business takes one time and hard work to build.
One should thread carefully with anyone who claims ‘its easy and guaranteed success.’

Thanks for an awesome article

    June 3, 2016 at 10:19 pm

No problem Roopesh as I just want to help as many people looking to get themselves online to have as much correct information as possible. The more people that know what is going on with online scammers and how to avoid getting into situations where they may lose money, the better.

There is always going to be people out there trying to cheat others out of their money. It is up to each individual to check into all the things they may be looking at getting involved with when it comes to the Internet. Like all things in life there are the good and the bad and we need to make sure we stay on top to recognize the difference between the two.

June 26, 2016 at 1:04 pm

Great article with helpful information.
There is a lot of scams out there and I know because I tried a few years ago a site that promises to make money in a quick way and in the end I lost $400, and the person just took off with my money.
So thank you for your information.
Hope that other person will reach your site.

    June 26, 2016 at 10:07 pm

The good news is there are others that are trying to get the word out so hopefully between all of us and new people creating sites doing the same will end up helping some others along the way.

There will always be scams and the ones looking for the easy way to make money so at least any visitors that have the opportunity to get here or another site like this can avoid the costly mistakes.

Hi Travis,

I couldn’t agree more learning how to spots scams is something that anyone looking to join the world of working online needs to learn!

The biggest indicators for me are usually when they tell you there is hundreds of thousands to be made working one hour a day and they don;t offer any kind of trail or refund policy!

The main way to arm yourself against scams is do your research, you have the internet at your fingers, look up the system creators and what others have to say!

    July 14, 2016 at 11:03 am

Yes, Nate, you bring up excellent advice that many could use as a guideline to avoiding any scams by realizing there are no overnight riches and to do a background check and Google the people and the so called opportunity to get the real rundown on the company.

Another good example is to do a history check that will let you know how long they have been around such as Yes, Nate, you bring up excellent advice that many could use as a guideline to avoiding any scams by realizing there are no overnight riches and to do a background check and Google the people and the so called opportunity to get the real rundown on the company. Reading your post, it reminds me of the opportunities I once watched surfing the traffic exchange sites. There are plenty of them in those traffic exchanges.

Stuffs like you’re being asked to give them your email address so they can share to you their secret sauce in making money online? Oh plenty of them there.

I hope more and more people would bump here first before they encounter such money hounds.

    August 16, 2016 at 11:42 am

I have also heard a fair bit about a lot of the traffic exchange systems that people had paid money into thinking of how they were going to get all kinds of connections for making money which never panned out. When it comes to the Internet, there is no shortage of scams, and they keep generating new ideas to get peoples money all the time.

The best we can do is discover them and give people a heads up about them.

A lot of scams asks you for your information and or personal stuff. Never input your banking information especially as well as social security because thats the most important. I personally haven’t been scammed before i think, but i know of many people who have and i feel so bad!

    October 30, 2016 at 11:38 am

There is not too much we can do for others except put the word out on what is happening and what to look for on how scammers are operating and the tricks they use. As you mentioned, there is information that nobody should be asking for, so it is best to set up a practice to never divulge certain information just to be on the safe side.

Happy to hear you’ve been able to stay clear of online scammers.

December 5, 2016 at 1:20 am

I, too, am of the belief that to be able to create a real, sustainable online business, you need to go with a legitimate platform that will provide you with the correct training and the right tools to push your success. There are so many scammy sites out there claiming to make you earn a tremendous amount of money overnight but that is just what they are – a bunch of scams.

I, too, am a premium member of Wealthy Affiliate and I can truly say this is the real deal when it comes to genuine and reliable training platform for online marketing. This is a great review!

    December 5, 2016 at 10:08 pm

Thanks for the comment Kathy and I also agree with you about what is on the Web and people need to be careful with who they do business with and how much they pay out to do their online businesses. There are quality sites out there depending on what it is you want to do so care must be taken to connect with proper sites that offer you the real services you’re looking for such as Wealthy Affiliate. Wealthy Affiliate is not the only quality site, but they are one of the better ones available.

Hi Travis, thank you so much for your article. Yes, I only wish I have read your article before falling into internet scams. I am lucky to have quickly realise it and stopped paying them. Like you said, there is really no easy money out there. But success is waiting for those who are willing to spend time to build their business. I also believe that finding a place where there is a strong community that supports one another is key.

Thank you for writing the article and I hope it will help many others before they get scammed.

    February 1, 2017 at 12:25 pm

Hi Steven and as you mentioned I hope to save as many people as possible. I know the scammers will never stop but at least the more sites that get created to help guide people to check everything out before spending any money and research the claims a lot of these other sites make, there will be very few people to get scammed.

It is usually the newest people to the internet as they are still finding out what works and what doesn’t. The scammers use their lack of knowledge and egernious to succeed with getting their money. It’s not until people find out that just because a site says they have a full money back guarantee for example that they do not honor any guarantees, there just in it for the money. There are many different ways scammers will see about getting your money, so people have to be very thorough in taking the time to research and check the sites out.

Simplest and best practise are to use free trial periods and free memberships where you do not need to use any form of payments or credit cards up front. As so as I here about something is free but I need to register with a credit card, I walk away. There are too many other places where they say it is free and you do not need a credit card to jeopardize losing money from some company billing you and not returning your money. I do not even bother with pay. First we have a 30-60 or 90 day guarantee we’ll return your money if not totally 100% satisfied. I use free systems to know if they have what I want or like then decide. That way you know what you’re getting.
