2. Easy to Use?

As a website builder, you will find Wix is the true meaning of drag and drop. You’ll be able to insert your content anywhere on the site.

With all the functions and features Wix has to offer with their website builder, it can look overwhelming, but most people find it easier to navigate as they get going. Most people tend to get the hang of it within the hour as the software program they developed is quite intuitive to use.

It is said by many that Wix is a website builder where whatever is placed in the website editor will show up the same on your published site. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG.)

Wix has also incorporated help buttons throughout their program even to individual elements for you to use. By doing this, you receive specific tutorials instead of generic help pages.

With the aid of these help buttons, Wix has created a website builder that can pack more functions and features than some of the others and still keep it user-friendly.

3. Options for Template Design

Most people should have no problem with finding a great looking template from the over 510 you’re able to choose for creating a site. These templates are also available for free members to create sites with as well.

Wix helps make it easy for you to stay on top of the trends to have a well designed and functioning site.

Wix websites templates.

Wix allows you to create your website from scratch or uses one of their pre-made templates.

If your not one for designing a website or have the time to get into building one from scratch, you’ll find it best to use an existing template that has the structure and layout just requiring you to add your content to get started.

Now Wix requires you not knowing how to code but if you do know there is no access for editing any HTML or CSS code. There will be no tweaking as they say with the code.

Also, once you have chosen a template and build your site on it, there is no going back to change it. It is best to check out a few and pick what suits your plan the best and stay with it, or you’ll need to reinsert all content when you rebuild it on another template.

TutorialCommunity ResourcesSupport

Wix has a comprehensive support center and a search bar to find relevant help topics quickly. The support center will walk you through a step by step procedure for setting up your domain name, online store, email, stats, Wix Mobile and other basic Wix editor tools.

Wix utilizes both text and video tutorials to take you step by step through navigating and using their website builder to help you create your site.

As you build your site, Wix has their help buttons one click away directly on the particular element your using. This feature can help save you from having to search through the library for supporting articles while building your site.

Considered one of Wix’s best features is the comprehensive active forum. When you have questions, you can check them against the database of previously asked questions for answers. Having the use of database questions and answers can save considerable time.

If you can not find an answer to your question, then you can post one which Wix’s support team will respond ASP once you have publicly posted it.

You can contact Wix by phone or email. Phone calls are between 6am-5pm PST, or scheduling can be made to have a specialist call you back.

You can have questions answered by posting them in the forum where Wix’s support team will also answer your requests.

For the VIP plan members, you’ll have direct access to the VIP Team.

You’ll discover support with Wix by email, support center, phone knowledgebase and forum discussions.

One thing Wix has and uses that other drag and drop website builders do not, is an App Market.

With these apps, you can expand on the functionality of your site with more than 260 Apps to transform your site to create a much more vibrant and functioning site. These Apps will ramp up your site’s capabilities with the tools and services they provide when added.

The apps are one simple click for installation to your site that can add many different features depending on which ones you chose to install. The image below shows a few of the hundreds of apps available.

Wix websites app market.

According to statistics, there has been a rapid growth in the use of apps to advance the features and functions of people’s websites. The option of just clicking a button is so much easier than having to know how to code.

There is no coding required just a simple click will do.
(graph showing use)
Wix is one of the few to have this feature of having an App Market where most of the other website builders are not offering such a feature as a provider.

One of the things most website builders do not have is the ability to edit your site separately from the desktop site. Wix Mobile has this function that you have the ability to edit them individually.

Wix gives you the capacity to re-arrange content or hide it on a page that you’ll display for mobile viewing. Other website builders do not offer this feature which can also enhance your visitor’s mobile experience.

With just a single tap, Wix uses a feature many are getting to know as a Mobile Action Bar. This bar is located at the bottom of the mobile site display where visitors can, find your address on a map, see your social network profiles, email or call.

An example would be when you tap the email icon the email interface opens up to write a message and send it off.

Businesses can use this feature to their advantage to make it easier for customers to get in touch with them. Saves the customer from having to take notes to try and get in touch with you later by making one touch of an icon and your getting to make contact by the method you chose.

7. SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The websites created by Wix are built using HTML5 and AJAX, which Google and other search engines have no problem recognizing.

A nice feature Wix website builder has over other similar sites is it can have customized web page addresses. This is a feature not all website builders allow. Your page title and URL extension are the same for some but can be changed with WIX.

This comes in very handy for having the keywords you want for SEO and what you want the search engine to focus on. An example of this will be if your page is about boats and you’re talking about specific courses your address could be “www.example.com/powerboats-navigation-course.”

This makes for a more memorable address to the reader and better understanding for Google with its search engine to your keyword terms.

You can optimize basic SEO functions with Wix just like any other website builder out there. That means you have control over the keywords you chose for your pages, titles, and descriptions.

8. Hosting

Wix supplies full support for hosting all the sites that you have with them. This means that both the free versions and the paid packages are fully covered. They handle all the technical aspects of hosting and the security measures that go with having a site, so you don’t have to.

Now because Wix has created their website builder the way they did, you are not able to export and use your site with another provider. The fact is the customization that they have employed in the creation of their website builder does not match up to work with other providers platform.

Not only does Wix not have an export function but there is also no archive feature for you to transport your site out of Wix.

Use the free site to see if Wix is for you before any significant commitment that would lock you in or cause a loss of time for recreating your website.

If you believe you want or may need to be able to export your site then Weebly, Squarespace, and Wealthy Affiliate are the better choices for that feature.

9. Pricing

Wix is a platform with a website builder that allows you to create a site with no coding experience and has the look of a professional website as if you spent thousands.

What does Wix cost?

Wix has a free and 5 levels of paid packages for you to choose from depending on the type of site you require.

The free package has no time limit and is great to see how well Wix can fit into your business requirements. This way you can test it out and upgrade later if this website builder is what you need.

Depending on which of the five paid packages you choose, the price will range from $6.90/month to $29.90/month. The prices go up as you require more functions and features from their website builder. You can save extra money if you pay yearly by as much as 30%-45% again depending on which package you need.

Wix websites premium plans.

The prices you pay for Wix’s premium plans are considered high by some people that figure you are only receiving a website builder to create your site and have it hosted.

There are cheaper providers than Wix, but again they also rank a lot lower and offer much less for overall features and functions.

Some providers still require you to build your website from scratch as they have no website builders for you to use. That means you’ll need to get into coding, designing, linking your site to the host after you get a domain name and set up its address.

Everything that is taken for granted with a provider that offers a website builder and hosting as a package deal, you’ll need to know and set up yourself with one of the cheaper cost providers that offer you less.

If you’ve never created a site this way before, let me just say it takes some serious time to go from scratch to do and build everything on your own. Time is money so how much is your’s worth.

10. Pros and Cons

1. Having over 510 professional templates to choose from saves you major time and money if you would typically need somebody else to design them for you when you’re not capable. The designs are fantastic, and Wix has templates that can look much better than what some of the other providers supply. Using a website builder that has so many templates to choose from will make creating your business site much easier.

2. Using an intuitive Drag & Drop feature, Wix allows you to decide easily on how to layout your content. Just choose text, images, slideshow, etc. and drag and drop it into place in the position you want without restrictions.

3. Wix offers a lot of support from the phone lines to all the help buttons you’ll see located everywhere. Whether you click on the main support button at the top or by clicking the ones on each element, you’ll receive the help you need. As mentioned before all the individual elements also will save you time with their unique help buttons, so you don’t need to go and look things up from the primary database. Also, you get the VIP team when you sign up for the VIP plan.

1. If you’re using Wix’s free package, then you’ll have visible advertisements on your website located on the side and bottom once you’ve published your site. All free sites created with Wix will have very predominate advertising and the only way to have them removed is by upgrading to at least their Comco premium package.

2. With Wix, you are unable to change templates. Even though Wix has their website builder with over 510 templates, once you choose one then that’s what you stuck with as they do not incorporate the ability to transfer from one template to another. So before you commit to any one template you may want to test some out to see which one you want for your site.

3. Wix is still working on making their e-commerce better. Even though they are better than a lot of other providers for handling e-commerce they still have some upgrading to improve upon for managing complex e-commerce that some of their top competitors are capable of doing, but they have made some great strides forward.

11. Is Wix right for you?

If you’re looking to find a website builder, that can save you time with designing and create a site then Wix has the templates and support system in place for you.
Wix will save you money on producing a great looking professional site that you no longer need to hire a web designer to create as you’ll be able to do it yourself and have all your hosting and technical support that goes with hosting taken care of for a reasonable price.
The platform is easy to use with their drag and drop technology, and if you need help, there is always ways to get the help you need when you need it.
The advantages of using a website builder far out way the older build from scratch having to code methods of the past.

Nowadays most people use website builders and do very little coding and for anyone new to the scene, the simplicity of having a website builder is where you want to be. Especially with a provider like Wix that continually strives to keep making improvements.

Also bear in mind that creating your site is just the first stage, and you still need to consider SEO and marketing strategies to be successful which Wix and most other providers do not deal with.

Wix is looking to provide you with the best website builder and hosting package for your money which has rated them as one of the best.

Wix is one of the best providers out there, and if that is all you need, then they are well worth checking out.

They have a great website builder ready to create your site in no time but remember once you choose a template there is no simple swapping it out for another.

Their platform is easy to use with excellent support, and you can build a site for all purposes. If you do want an e-commerce site they still have room for improvement but they have been working on it as they continually work to improve on their platform.

In my opinion, I believe:
Anyone new to creating a business on the internet.
Intermediate marketers are looking for answers.
Even some of the pros!

When you want to keep things simple and maximize your time, my #1 Recommendation is the way to go.

Not only can you receive the best package for free websites without having the providers advertising on your site but get the full package.

Just having a website does nothing much on the Internet. You need to know how to make your site rank with proper SEO and how to market your business online.

Where all the other providers are leaving off, you can get a full business package of what you need from start to finish at one place.

Learn and create:
Your website
Social Networking
Site Ranking

The list goes on!

You can get involved with using Wix Websites and figure out the rest or

I’m currently using WordPress as a website builder and I love it. How would you compare Wix to WordPress and Is it any better? I heard a lot about Wix and I know from the different websites I visit that many are created using Wix. What do you recommend? Some wix websites are very well done and navigation also seems to be seamless.

If you’re using WordPress and you’re happy with it, I would stick with it and not even consider using Wix or any of the regular website builders. Pretty much all the sites these days can work seamlessly that most providers are offering. There will always be some glitches that can happen from time to time as nothing is perfect.

The platform you are currently using is one of the biggest on the Internet to date and will probably stay the biggest for many years to come. WordPress being an open form allows for many different people to jump on board and create plugins and extra code for it which will keep it in higher demand than what Wix, Weebly, Squarespace and the other providers offer.

Your WordPress platform is also more flexible and can do more than what the other providers have created with their custom platforms. I also use WordPress for all my websites now as well.

Thanks for a great review of Wix!

I have used Wix in the past and found it to have its good points and its bad.

It does make it easy for the beginner to create a site. The user interface is very easy to use.

Your point about the inability to change your “template” once you chose it is one of the biggest reason I left the platform.

Now I prefer to use WordPress and be able to choose from the thousands of Themes available and the ability to change the theme if I want or need to.

Also the huge variety of plug ins available give me plenty of options to spice up my site.

Hi, Tom and it’s always good to hear from others who have used some of the other providers as well to know the differences of what they have to offer.

Wix is one of the best and leading website builders available, and I would think that they will continue, as they have a great product for what they offer.

I just find and especially for new comers getting into learning and those that want to have an online business that Wealthy Affiliate is the better choice. Having a great provider is crucial which WA also offers but when your new and have so much to learn and keep up with from all the ongoing changes that happen with the Internet, Wealthy Affiliate is the place to be.

As good as the other providers are, they are just that, only a provider. Most people need much more than just an excellent provider which is what Wealthy Affiliate is with all their extra training.

Wealthy Affiliate is here to help you succeed in your online endeavors.

I have used wix but nothing to this extent. You have a great deal of information here that is well presented and articulate. The only drawback I would see is that the length of the article is very long. I would ignore that do to the fact that it was written so well.

    January 9, 2017 at 4:10 pm

It is true that some of my articles may be long. Usually, I break them up into a couple or several posts to make it easier to absorb, but with the reviews, I tend to keep them on one post.

I started to use tabs and accordion drop downs so visitors will have less scrolling and can make a choice to read all or part of each article. Hopefully, that will help so I can try to please the ones that want some information and also the others that want detailed more.

You have put a lot of time and effort into your page. The layout naturally flows, which makes it an easy read. I really like your author block. I think that I would like to adopt some of your layout blue print to my website. I like how you leave the door open for the person to make up their own mind. Overall, it’s neat and professional.

    March 27, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Hi, Russ and thanks for the comment and in this case one that is written more as feedback on my post. This site is about helping people become marketers and building online businesses. That being said, if you find parts of my layout and how I created this site gives you ideas on what you would like to do with your site, then that’s great. My goal with this site is to help others achieve their goals for online success and if my design gives you some inspiration than that is a good thing. You have a great day and thanks again for the comment.
